Nesting Eagles

Eagles nesting in Central WA

These eagles are nesting atop an 80′ Siberian Elm, on private land in Central WA. Eagles generally prefer to nest in much taller trees, but this Elm is the tallest tree  around, and the eagles are making the best of it. Siberian Elm (Ulmus pumila) is a non-native tree that has out-competed native species, such as Cottonwoods, in many areas of the NW, and is often reviled for its weedy and buggy character.  When it comes to habitat however, the wildlife will often take whatever it can get.
